ABOUT STATUS UNKNOWN
BUILT FROM
LIVED EXPERIENCE.
DESIGNED FOR
SYSTEMIC CHANGE.
Status Unknown is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit building a connected response for people living with chronic, invisible, complex, disabling, and undiagnosed illness
and for the families and communities affected alongside them.
We are transforming lived experience, community action, and years of direct support into practical programs and lasting infrastructure.

WHY WE EXIST
Illness should not be allowed to become life collapse.
A diagnosis, or the absence of one, can change far more than a person’s health. It can disrupt income, education, work, housing, relationships, independence, identity, access to care, and plans for the future.
When every system responds to only one part of the problem, people are left to hold the entire crisis together alone.
Status Unknown exists to close that gap.
We connect visibility, resource navigation, practical relief, community, and long-term systems building so people are not reduced to a condition or abandoned inside a fragmented system.

WHY THE NAME "STATUS UNKNOWN"?
When every answer becomes uncertain.
For many people living with chronic or undiagnosed illness, “status unknown” describes more than a medical record.
"Status Unknown" holds that uncertainty without accepting it as the final outcome.
DIAGNOSIS
It can describe the diagnosis.
CARE
The treatment plan.
INCOME
The next paycheck.
IDENTITY
A changing identity.
FUTURE
What happens next.
Status Unknown turns what has been dismissed, questioned, or left unresolved into something visible, connected, and impossible to ignore.
A LETTER FROM OUR FOUNDER
.png)
This work began before there was an organization.
I did not build Status Unknown because I believed the world needed another awareness campaign.
I built it because I learned what happens when illness begins changing every part of a life, and the systems around you are not prepared to hold what follows.
I experienced the uncertainty of searching for answers, trying to be believed, protecting work and income, navigating fragmented care, and watching the burden spread to the people I love. At the same time, I kept meeting people carrying their own version of the same story.
People were not failing because they lacked strength.
They were being asked to survive medical, financial, relational, and institutional failures at the same time.
In 2018, that recognition became action. What began through community advocacy, fundraising, and direct support grew into Hope for the Holidays, years of assistance for people and families, and eventually the foundation for Status Unknown. This organization is bigger than my story.
It belongs to every warrior who has had to prove their pain, every caregiver who became the missing system, and every person who believes we can build something better. We are making invisible experiences visible. More importantly, we are turning visibility into support, connection, accountability, and infrastructure that can last.

TODAY
WE ARE BUILDING FOR SCALE
Status Unknown is transforming years of lived knowledge and community action into programs, partnerships, resources, workflows, and accountable systems.
OUR MISSION
To make invisible illness visible
& turn visibility into support.
Status Unknown supports people living with chronic, invisible, complex, disabling, and undiagnosed illness by building visibility, practical relief, resource navigation, community connection, and long-term systems change.
OUR VISION
A future where illness does not erase a person’s life.
We envision a world where illness does not erase a person’s credibility, stability, belonging, independence, or future
and where no one is forced to navigate it alone.
HOW WE WORK
The principles guiding what we build.

SEE
THE WHOLE PERSON
Illness can affect health, income, work, education, family, identity, independence, and the future at the same time. Our response must recognize the complete human experience.

BUILD WITH
LIVED EXPERIENCE
People closest to the problem should help shape the response. Lived experience is not decoration or testimony added after decisions are made. It is essential knowledge

MOVE BEYOND
PERFORMATIVE AWARENESS
Visibility matters when it leads to belief, access, support, accountability, funding, or change. We are not interested in awareness that ends with attention.

BUILT FOR
TRUST AND LONGEVITY
We are creating clear systems, responsible partnerships, measurable outcomes, and organizational infrastructure designed to grow without losing the mission.
OUR LEADERSHIP
Built by people who understand systems and the human cost when they fail.
